Natalie Bassel began her career as a makeup artist. Women’s faces and how they transformed with every addition of colour, shade, and tone were her inspiration to pursue her art. Her clients would transform into a beautiful paintings before her eyes. She then honed her skills and enrolled in several courses at the Saidye Bronfman Centre in Montreal, including printmaking.
While most of her works are done with acrylic paint, she uses man-made papers for her print work, her first attempt at using oil paints turned into a sale to a consultant and was published in Chez Soi Magazine.
For nearly 50 years Natalie has created a collection of paintings that have been sold throughout Canada and the United States. Her subject matters have ranged from winterscapes, wildlife, flora to pure-play with colour and mood. She enjoys using a hybrid of impressionism and abstraction. She’s obsessed with tone and texture to the point that many pieces have been reworked on-site in their patrons’ homes because she sees and feels something different in the new environment.
Natalie has done many commissioned works and enjoys working with art lovers to bring their visions in sync and to life. Their testimonials tell of her passion, commitment, and creativity.
This is Natalie Bassel’s first solo exhibit, and it will fulfill a lifelong dream.
